About
San Francisco-based drummer and percussionist.
I played drums or percussion on Hamilton about 900 times from 2019-2025 on National Tours and Sit-Downs across the U.S. and Canada. Other Credits: Fun Home Public Theater (off-Broadway) 2013-14, Fun Home (First National Tour) 2016-2017, The Notebook (First National Tour - sub) 2026, Co-Founders, Nobody Loves You, A Strange Loop, The Hippest Trip: The Soul Train Musical (American Conservatory Theater), Galileo - sub, Laura Benanti: Nobody Cares (Berkeley Rep).
Before I moved to the Bay Area, I lived in New York for about four years. I got my Masters in Jazz Performance from NYU. I studied with Dafnis Prieto, Stefon Harris, Kenny Werner, and lots of other great teachers. I played at the Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Bitter End, 55 Bar, Symphony Space, Joe’s Pub, and more with a variety of artists and musical styles.
I was born in Amsterdam, Holland and lived there until was 10. I studied classical percussion at the University of Wisconsin and spent 6 years performing and touring in the Wisconsin Army National Guard Band. I played in a million bands and some jazz groups. Then I took an interest in world music and traveled to Guinea, Mali, Brazil, Cuba, and Peru to learn percussion from the source.
Following in the path of my parents, who are are both retired music teachers, I have been teaching private and group lessons for over 20 years. I teach out of my home studio and I work with various organizations to bring music to under-resourced schools. I’ve presented masterclasses with my world percussion trio at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the Juilliard Percussion Seminar, and several other colleges and universities. It is my goal to teach as many people as possible before the robots take over.
