Drumming for “Hamilton”
Hamilton has two different parts that require a drummer. The drumset part consists of a large drumset plus electronic pads. The percussion part plays along with the drumset but also has instruments like concert bass drum, keyboard, tubular bells, etc.
I started on Hamilton as a Drumset sub in 2019. I had been subbing for a few months when they offered me the percussion chair. I started on percussion in early 2020, then Covid hit and we went away for a while. The tour finally went out in 2021 with me on percussion. I was out for a full 2 years and played percussion for most of the time, filling in on drums as needed.
I moved to drumset at our last stop - 6 months in Toronto, Canada. My tour (“And Peggy” Tour) closed in August of 2023, but I left a couple weeks early to go start up the Soul Train musical back home in SF. Over the next couple years I went out to sub several times on the remaining two Hamilton tours (Philip Tour and Angelica Tour), filling in on both drumset and percussion for up to 2 weeks at a time through mid-2025.
